Local Team Collaboration:

• We take pride in our well-established team of 14 physicians and 8 APPs at Mercy Medical Center
• Work alongside a Medical Director, Associate Medical Director, two clinical performance nurses, and a Program Manager
• As a team, we value our collaboration with the nurses and specialists throughout the hospital
• We utilize EPIC as well as our internal informatics platform

Qualifications:

• Certification as a Physician Assistant in Iowa is required
• At least 1 year of acute care hospitalist experience preferred
• Highly autonomous role

Scheduling:

• We are seeking a Physician Assistant for both our day and swing shifts with full and part-time schedules
• Our schedule is relatively predictable, so our team typically works 7-days-on, 7-days-off
• Generally, our Physician Assistants will work 7 am-5 pm and 4 pm-2 am rounding during the day shift (average of 12 patients per shift) and focusing on admissions during the evening shift (average of 7-8 admissions per shift). However, volumes can ebb and flow depending on the time of year and staffing

Key Responsibilities:

• Even though our Physician Assistants don’t provide ICU coverage, our physicians may assist from a medical management perspective from time to time
• Our team is highly engaged, so we respond to codes and rapid alerts on our patients and assist if one is called and we are nearby; we try to help each other in any way we can
• We meet monthly for a team meeting and a patient experience touch base. We also have a short morning huddle daily to secure handoffs and ensure everyone is ready for the day

• Our team actively serves on hospital committees and projects, with two hospitals represented for better coverage and time management. Since partnering with Mercy in 2015, we’ve built a strong relationship with administration and are trusted on hospital-wide initiatives. Beyond the hospital, we support our community by adopting a family during the holidays and helping the Catholic Worker House emergency shelter.
